Description (Service) | The Apatisiwin program connects Aboriginal youth and adults who are seeking employment with varying opportunities aimed at increasing their employability, and/or securing employment. Services include the following: Drop-In Services (No Intake Required): ~ Job Postings ~ Copier and Fax Services ~ Access to Computers & Internet Non-Funded Services Provided (Only In-Take Required): ~ Employment Counselling ~ Resume/Cover Letter Writing Assistance ~ Job Search Information and Referrals Funded Services Provided (Application & In-Take Required): ~ Pre-Employment Training ~ On-The-Job Training ~ Purchase of Training ~ Summer Jobs ~ Employment Supports ~ Apprenticeship Skills Training ~ Self-Employment Training ~ Youth Internships ~ Training Supports ~ Stay-In-School Applicants must be a resident of Ontario, and aged 15 years or older. |

Description (Agency) | The Can-Am Indian Friendship Centre (CAIFC) of Windsor was incorporated on June 8, 1981 and became a member of the Ontario Federation of Indigenous Friendship Centres (OFIFC) in October 1981. The centre’s founding members are Maryrose Barefoot Jones, Max Joseph Hedley, Abraham Tanian Pone, Candace Elaine Moore, Peter Nahwegahbo, Peter Evans Wickerson, Donna Florence Loyal, Sharon Ann John, and Kathleen Anne McCloskey. The CAIFC is driven by the desire for Aboriginal peoples within the areas of Windsor and Essex County to become a self-sufficient, self-determining, self-governing community. Historically, the CAIFC has been the focal point for Aboriginal peoples within the urban environment. As of today, the Friendship Centre develops a multitude of programs and services that encompass the cultural, economic, social, and political objectives of the urban Aboriginal community. |
